Cape Cod Artists: the coast looking to Vineyard Sound

This view took my breath away last summer—even more than the views of the famous lighthouse at Gay Head. The sense of the light reflecting and glistening off the coast was quite notable.

Special Graduation Gifts

I am currently working on several high school graduation portraits. Commissioning a portrait of your child at this time in their life is an exciting and wonderful thing. I can give you a gift card to wrap and the graduate will book a time to meet me at their convenience.

Other gifts for college graduates can be paintings of their school. Contact me about commissioning such a painting, which will be memorable and timeless!

Boston nightscape commission

I am working on my first commission of an evening scene in Boston.

It is a pleasure to be able to bring to life a scene to be enjoyed for a lifetime by my young client. I am an artist who is stimulated by the ideas of my clients and uses them as a springboard.

I work these landscape/home commissions in around my portrait commissions and I'm very pleased to do this work as well. They make unique, thoughtful gifts and this one happens to be a gift too. I may posts some little color sketches I did to get ready for the finish. The sky color was a consideration: a Prussian blue or more a purple-blue? . . .more to come.*

*update 5/2013: The painting has been completed and approved. I will post the image in August after this wedding gift is given.

Boston Public Garden—Lagoon Bridge in winter

It's great to stretch one's boundaries as an artist, so with that in mind I've been working on some new paintings of Boston.

I bounded into Boston recently to capture images for an evening scene I'm working on for an exciting new commission and was compelled to return. Here are a few of my paintings. They are available so send an email at soniahale1@gmail.com if you are interested in any of them.

Lagoon Bridge is said to be the world's shortest suspension bridge. Just think of the drama of the Golden Gate bridge of San Francison as a contrast in length and size. However, I believe Lagoon bridge is the equal of the Golden Gate bridge in beauty, especially as it is constantly changing with the gorgeous four seasons we have here.

Years ago this lagoon was deliberately flooded for ice skaters, but now eveyone skates on the Boston Common's Frog Pond.

Boston Statehouse—winter's dream

I love the history of Boston. The Boston Statehouse was built in 1798. The dome was originally made of wood shingles, but now is covered in copper and 23 karat gold to prevent leaks (not too shabby.) It is topped with a lantern and a pinecone—symbols of the forests here.

Boston Landscapes on a Winter's Day—Frog Pond

I was drawn by the lights hung for the holidays and the grace of the skaters. The Boston Common Frog Pond is in the oldest and one of the most historic parks nationwide. It was built in 1848 and is the last remaining pond of three original ones. This skating site is one of the jewels of Boston.
