This piece is available. Lately I am reading the Autobiography of Mark Twain—not in sequence, but in small segments. It is filled with jewels of writing. Who cannot love this author as he reflects upon his childhood on a farm:

"I can call back the soleum twilight and the mystery of the deep woods, the earthy smells, the faint odors of the wildflowers, the sheen of rain-washed foliage, the rattling clatter of drops when the wind shook the trees, the far-off hammering of woodpeckers and the muffled drumming of wood pheasant in the remoteness of the forest. . ."

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. have such a powerful presense of Southern country life in the 1800's.
